Today's starter: Would you help a slave escape? What if it was against the law - would you still help? Tell me why.
After discussing the starter, we read and discussed a short graphic novel story titled "Seeing the Light." In this story we meet a couple named Jack and Mary. Mary wants to be a part of the "Underground Railroad" and help slaves escape from the south. Jack is concerned for her safety because he has heard that many who have tried to help have been beaten. Jack's opinion changes when Mary brings home a slave to shelter.
We then played a game of Jeopardy to introduce our new section of study.
Finally, we worked on "The Spirit of Reform" assignment.
